The typical Adsense CTR is around 1-2% but that´s just for ads that were not tuned yet. Learning these tips can put your CTR from 5% to 15%.
1. Placement
If you put your ads in a place where your user has to look for them like Where´s Wally then you will not go very far. The ads should be the first thing your user sees. Take Google search for example, they show the ads before the results.
2. Ad Type
Some ads are not user-friendly, they are hard to read. The most effective ad is the rectangle box and vertical large banners. Avoid horizontal ads, users already got used to ignore them.
3. Colors
The best color? Blue. Users already associated the blue color as a link, it´s the default link color. The second best color? Matching your website colors. If your links are green, make green ads.
4. Ad Density
Have you ever been to a shop where the windows was completely over filed with products? The result was that you didn´t look to any. The same happens with ads, if you put too many, your users will run away from them. Find the balance make tests with different amounts and see what works best for you.
5. Ad Integration
You can integrate the ads in the content. When you write an article you can put some ads in the middle so if your user finds something they might like they click on it. Avoid putting ads in places where users will be annoyed and this includes ads right after the article title, ads blocking an optimal article reading, ads that distract from the article.
